Botanicals, minerals and vitamins

Wollenhaupt Tee GmbHWollenhaupt Tee GmbH

Following the pandemic, people have become more health-conscious and interest in herbal substances and products with health-promoting properties has increased. We combine flavoursome teas with natural ingredients and enrich them with additional minerals and vitamins.

The increasing demand is reflected in new areas of application such as functional drinks. Consumers favour clean label and sustainable ingredients and are very interested in dietary supplements.

The use of herbal ingredients such as ashwagandha, horsetail, lavender and ginger is also increasing in other areas of the food industry. Availability and flavour determine the popularity of these botanicals. Botanical extracts can be found in a growing number of product launches in all major segments, including beverages.

Green tea in particular is said to be rich in amino acids and therefore beneficial to health. The secondary plant substance EGCG - epigallocatechin gallate - is held responsible for most of the alleged effects. It belongs to the catechins and thus to the flavonoids and makes up a third of the dry matter in green tea.

Great potential for food supplements in Europe

The European market for dietary supplements shows impressive growth potential. This corresponds to a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.92% in the forecast period from 2023 to 2028.

This positive development is supported by the increasing health awareness of consumers and the growing interest in natural and herbal ingredients. Botanical drinks and teas in particular are growing in popularity as they combine health benefits with sustainable and clean ingredients.

Overall, the figures and trends show that the dietary supplements market in Europe is a dynamic and promising industry that will continue to expand and attract new consumers.

What exactly are botanicals?

Botanicals are herbal ingredients that are used for their beneficial properties. For centuries, various cultures have utilised the benefits of nature and incorporated botanicals into their medicinal, culinary and wellness practices. These ingredients offer not only flavour and aroma, but also a variety of health benefits.

We have carefully curated a selection of herbs, flowers and spices that not only delight the palate, but also promote overall wellness. Here are some of the botanicals we use in our tea blends:

Camomile:
Known for its calming properties, chamomile is perfect for unwinding after a hectic day. Its gentle, floral flavour and digestive benefits make it an essential classic. Contains small amounts of magnesium, potassium, phosphorus and some vitamins such as B1 and B2.

Hibiscus:
with its bright red colour and slightly tart taste, is famous for its antioxidant properties. It is a refreshing choice that also helps to keep blood pressure in healthy ranges. Hibiscus contains high levels of vitamin C, which helps to strengthen the immune system.

Ginger:
Is known for its ability to improve digestion and combat nausea. Its spicy and warm flavour gives our blends an explosion of energy and vitality. Minerals found in ginger include magnesium, iron, potassium and vitamin C.

Lavender:
with its distinctive floral aroma, is ideal for calming the mind and promoting restful sleep. A sip of lavender tea is like a comforting hug in a cup. Vitamin A and minerals such as iron and calcium are among the ingredients of lavender.

Rooibos:
Originally from South Africa, rooibos is a caffeine-free herb that is rich in antioxidants. Its sweet and earthy flavour makes it an excellent base for blending with other herbs and spices. Rooibos contains valuable ingredients such as vitamin C, iron, calcium, magnesium, fluorine and copper.

Sage:
Has strong antioxidant and antimicrobial properties. It is known to improve memory and soothe sore throats. Sage naturally contains minerals and vitamins such as magnesium and zinc as well as vitamins A, C and B6.

Marigold flowers:
Known for their anti-inflammatory properties, marigold flowers not only give our teas a beautiful colour, but also support the healing and well-being of the skin. Marigold is rich in vitamin C and minerals such as iron, zinc and magnesium, to name but a few.

Mallow flowers:
Are known for their soothing and expectorant properties. They are ideal for soothing the throat and providing relief from coughs and colds. Mallow flowers contain vitamin C, as well as minerals such as zinc, magnesium and iron.

Botanicals PLUS

Supplements with vitamins and minerals as an additional healthy PLUS

We combine flavoursome teas with natural ingredients and enrich them with additional minerals and vitamins.

Which tea bases and cut sizes are suitable?

In principle, all tea bases are possible, i.e. black tea, green tea, herbal tea, fruit tea and roibos tea. We check this for each individual tea blend. Fine cuts and pyramid cuts can be realised as cut sizes, and cold brew is also possible for many blends.

Fine cuts are suitable for triangle and double-chamber bags. We have our own mould for the granules to prevent the minerals and vitamins from trickling through.
